SUMMARY:Magnetic and Transport Properties of Low-Dimensional Van-der-Waals Structures
DESCRIPTION:Mirali Jafari\nDepartment of Mesoscopic Physics, ISQI, Faculty of Physics, Adam Mickiewicz University, ul. Uniwersytetu Poznańskiego 2, 61-614 Poznań, Poland\nIn this presentation, I would like to have a brief of my doctoral thesis aims including the performed and in-doing tasks. The general aim is the investigation of electronic, magnetic, and transport properties of selected low-dimensional graphene-like structures and Van-der-Waals layered materials. The research is assumed to be focused on a variety of topological quantum states that may appear in this class of materials, the interplay of magnetism and topology, and their direct consequences on electron and spin transport.\nIn the talk, the following issues will be addressed (i) inter- and intra-layer exchange interaction in stacked Van-der-Waals materials and their coexistence with topological phases, we will consider ferrovalley materials (e.g., from the transition metal dichalcogenides family) and layered Van-der-Waals antiferromagnets (such as tetradymite type ternary chalcogenides; (ii) the proposals of spin-valves based on layered Van-der-Waals materials and modelling of their transport characteristics; (iii) investigation of the presence of zero-energy states in nanodisks of graphene-like materials (e.g., silicene, phosphorene, MoS2, WSe2); (iv) modification of electronic and transport properties of layered crystals by external fields (i.e., effects of strain, magnetic fields), magnetic and spin-orbit proximity effects.\nhost: Martin Gmitra\n
